Parker praises Bobby Reid in Fulham’s 3-0 win over Derby

Fulham manager Scott Parker has heaped praise on Bobby Reid after the forward netted his first goal for the Cottagers. The west London side produced one of their best displays of the season against Derby County at home and Reid was responsible for opening the scoring in the comfortable 3-0 triumph.

Following the game, Parker was pleased with Reid getting off the mark for the Cottagers and he was also appreciative of his workrate and mentality during the first half of the campaign, he told: “It was his first goal for us tonight, which is remarkable. He’s been top class since he has come in, and while the goals haven’t been there, the work ethic and mentality is everything we want.Where Bobby played tonight is probably his best position. He’s a player that takes everything on board, and delivers. He’s someone who’s always in and around it.”

Scott Parker coy about permanent Fulham managerial role

Fulham manager Scott Parker has remained coy over the possibility of becoming the permanent manager of the Cottagers. The 38-year-old was unable to prevent the Cottagers from relegation after being handed with the interim role in February, but the club have recently shown promise with three Premier League victories on the bounce.

Speaking after the 1-0 triumph over Cardiff, Parker refused to rule out the permanent managerial post but suggested that the focus remains on ending the season on a good note, he said: “From the outset, all I can do is what’s in my control, and that’s setting up the team to try to win games and be organised.”

“We’re doing that and the players have been different class to me and how we’re trying to do things – and we’re enjoying things at the moment. We said before the game we’d have to build and we needed to make sure it didn’t go into a lull, and we were playing against a really disciplined side. In the end it was a wonder-strike to win us the game.”

Fulham squandered two chances to score through Aleksandar Mitrovic against the Bluebirds and it appeared that they could settle for a goalless stalemate before Ryan Babel’s wonder-goal. With the result, they have moved up to 27 points for the campaign and one-third of the tally has resulted from the eight matches where Parker has been at the helm.

Meanwhile, the result has put Cardiff’s Premier League status under jeopardy and they could find themselves relegated during the forthcoming gameweek. The Welsh outfit are currently four points behind 17th-placed Brighton & Hove Albion with an inferior goal difference, and their prospects of survival are dependent on winning the remaining two games whilst hoping that Brighton don’t pick any more points. The same, however, remains difficult, considering they are scheduled to face Crystal Palace and Manchester United before the season close.

Ryan Sessegnon admits Fulham players want Scott Parker on a permanent basis

Fulham defender Ryan Sessegnon has said that the players within the squad want Scott Parker to take over as the permanent manager of the club at the end of the season. The ex-Cottagers player was handed with the head coach role on an interim basis following the sacking of Claudio Ranieri but this has not improved the club’s results with four successive league defeats.

Speaking exclusively to Standard Sport, he said: “He’s changed the mentality [of the squad] in terms of defending the goal and catching teams on the break especially the top six teams. He’s really engaged with the fans as well, staying together and not giving up. Yes, of course. I think everyone does, really. He’s come in and changed the way we play, you can see again [his impact] around the stadium. It would be good for the club.”

Parker is currently the third manager at the helm since the Cottagers’ top-flight comeback but the move has not worked out with four losses on the bounce. As such, they find themselves on the cusp of relegation from the Premier League and the same could be confirmed with another defeat on the road to Watford on Tuesday night.

Based on this, “Parker has not done much in terms of the results on the playing field but the board could consider him for the role nonetheless“, considering the positive atmosphere among the players and supporters despite a frustrating campaign. Elsewhere, the Cottagers can anticipate to lose some of their purchases made last summer with Jean Michel Seri among others unlikely “to consider dropping down“ to the Championship.

Fulham have gone through a tough run with three of the previous four matches against the top six and they are scheduled to face Watford on the road. The west London outfit have nothing to lose with relegation already confirmed, and it remains to be seen whether they can find a way of ending their eight-match losing streak and delay the drop from the top-flight.
