Fulham Winger Delighted To Win Multiple Accolades At EFL Awards Night

Fulham winger Ryan Sessegnon was delighted to have been bestowed with three accolades during the EFL awards night on Sunday. The teenager has stood out with his performances for the Cottagers during the backend of the campaign, and this has since him being named the Championship Player of the Year ahead of Fulham’s Tom Cairney and Wolves’ Ruben Neves.

Meanwhile, Sessegnon also bagged the Championship’s young player of the season, and apprentice of the year awards to cap off an excellent second season with the Fulham first-team. Speaking about the achievement, he said: “I would never have thought I would win the young player or player of the season because there’s been some fantastic competition in the league this season, especially Ruben Neves at Wolves, James Maddison at Norwich, Cairney at Fulham.A lot of great players have played this season so to win those two awards is a special feeling.”

Sessegnon could have easily pursued a move to one of Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur last summer, but he instead placed his loyalty towards the west London club, who are aiming to secure top-flight promotion. Despite the Cottagers’ unbeaten run in 2018, they find themselves a game and point behind second-placed Cardiff City, and the competition for the second automatic promotion spot may go down to the wire with Cardiff, Fulham and Aston Villa separated by just four points.

Regardless of this, the Championship was able to witness Wolves’ promotion to the top-flight. The west Midlands outfit now require just one point from the remaining matches to lift the title, but they will no doubt also have the aim of accumulating 100 points which have been done by only Reading (106) and Newcastle United (102) since the turn of the century. Wolves take on relegation candidates Bolton Wanderers in their next league outing.

Cardiff City have struggled for consistency in the Championship

Cardiff City have struggled for consistency in the Championship but it has been down to the absence of many important players over the course of the season.

One of them is striker Federico Macheda, who was expected to make a significant change in the title race. However, he has featured in only two games in the Championship. Restricted due to injuries, the striker recently made a successful comeback to the first-team. It may have been only a minute’s appearance in the 2-2 draw against Burnley, but it is a good start nonetheless.

Restricted due to injuries, the striker recently made a successful comeback to the first-team. It may have been only a minute’s appearance in the 2-2 draw against Burnley, but it is a good start nonetheless.

Macheda says that he is glad to have put his injury owes behind him and wants to concentrate on scoring goals for Cardiff. The former Manchester United striker has struggled with injuries throughout his career. It was one of the primary reasons behind United letting him go even though he made one of the best debuts for the club in recent memory. Even though there was a positive in the form ofMacheda, the result was certainly not good for Cardiff. Despite leading the game with a two-goal advantage, they allowed themselves to get pegged back. The draw certainly does not help lift the mood around the club.

Even though these were two more dropped points, Cardiff will remain hopeful of returning to the play-off places.”Personally, I’m feeling good. I had my operation around 12 weeks ago now and finally I’m through it and feeling great. I’m looking forward to getting even fitter and contributing to the team.I had a run-out with the development team ahead of getting out in front of the fans for a few minutes against Burnley. It’s always a great feeling getting back after injury – I was very pleased with that. We were disappointed after Burnley as with five minutes to go we were 2-0 up,” saidMacheda.
