RUIZ MOVES AWAY

Bryan Ruiz is very close to making a move away from Fulham. He has clearly been told by the boss Rene Meulensteen that he can get in touch with different clubs.

The attacking midfielder from Costa Rica had arrived at Craven Cottage about 2 and half years back after leaving FC Twente. A big amount of money had been spent by Fulham to buy him, but, he hasn’t been able to repay that so far. Apart from a few good performances here and there, he has been largely inconsistent.

Since Meulensteen has taken charge at Craven Cottage, Ruiz has been given just one starting chance. That was against Hull City at the end of the last year. The Lilywhites got thrashed by a big margin of 6-0 in that game and since then, Ruiz has been warming the bench.

Talking to the reporters about Ruiz the other day, the Fulham boss said, “Bryan has been given the permission to get in touch with various clubs. With the World Cup not too far away, he is looking for playing opportunities and that’s understandable, but, there is no guarantee that he would get those here at Fulham.”

Meulensteen admitted that the Spanish club Real Betis wants to sign Ruiz on loan for the rest of the ongoing season, but, at the same time, he also said that there are interests from other clubs as well and no decision has been taken yet.

When asked about Real Betis’ interest, the 49 years old Dutchman said, “Yes, they have approached us, but, there have been approaches from Netherlands too and he has a very good record there. Let’s see what happens.”

Ruiz has so far made 68 league appearances for Fulham and has scored 8 goals.
