Fulham winning series comes to end after Defeat against Bournemouth

Fulham’s two match winning run was brought to an end after a 2-0 defeat against Bournemouth on Boxing Day.

Prior to this match, two victories against Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday had moved Fulham clear of the relegation zone. Just when it seemed that they would have the possibility of making a challenge for the play-off spot towards the end of the season, the defeat against Bournemouth has brought the club back to earth. The current championship leaders opened the scoring after just nine minutes through Pitman. Fulham managed to keep the score 1-0 for much of the match before Arter’s injury time goal confirmed the defeat.

Bournemouth were convincing throughout the match and they were better in every department. Fulham could not cope with the passing and the way Bournemouth dictated the speed of the match. The score could have been even more comfortable for the home team hadPitman converted his penalty in the second half. Fulham manager Kit Symons says that he is proud of his players even after this defeat.Symons has recalled that the penalty save by goalkeeperMarcus Bettinelli was a crucial moment in the match, but he regretted the fact that Fulham were not able to convert this into an equaliser.

“We said at half-time we’d weathered the storm a little bit. We rode our luck at times , but we had to be brave and take the game to Bournemouth and I thought we did that in the second period. We had some opportunities, but it wasn’t quite to be.It was a great save from Marcus (Bettinelli) from the penalty. That could have been the turning point.Bournemouth needed a second goal and we could have turned it around after that, but it didn’t happen,” said Symons. Fulham’s next match is against Brighton and Hove Albion at home.
