Calum Chambers reacts after securing Fulham loan
England international Calum Chambers has expressed his excitement after joining Fulham on a season-long loan move. The 23-year-old had only recently signed a new long-term deal with Arsenal but he could up the opportunity of a temporary challenge after failing to receive assurances of regular gametime at the Emirates.
Speaking to Fulham’s official website, he said: “I watched a lot of Fulham last season, I really like the way they play football, there’s a good manager, it’s a great club, so I’m really excited for the season ahead. Everyone can see that Fulham is a club that likes to play football, play football from the back, through the lines. That’s the style of football I like as well, so I think it fits me and suits the way I play.”
With the move to west London,
“Chambers has the chance to reunite alongside Alfie Mawson, “ who was previously his central defensive partner at the England under-21 level. Aside from this, the Englishman also has the opportunity to break into the Three Lions which he has not managed over the past four years.
Back in 2014, Chambers enjoyed a good spell with the national team as he managed three caps in the space of two months but things have since not gone as per plan with Gareth Southgate focusing on players, who have earned a regular run in the Premier League. Meanwhile, apart from Chambers, the Cottagers have landed the likes of Sergio Rico, Andre ZamboAnguissa, and Fosu Mensah before the transfer deadline and looking at the team on paper, they should fancy their chances of beating the drop.
Fulham begin their Premier League campaign with a home game against London rivals Crystal Palace. Thereafter, they have another cross-town derby scheduled as they take on Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur on the road.
